Letter From the Principal

Dear Families,

It is with great pleasure that I write this letter to you as the incoming Interim Acting Principal of PS/IS 180 Hugo Newman College Preparatory School. I am energized and deeply committed to making a positive difference in the lives of your children.

Over the next few months, I look forward to learning more about the history and rich traditions of our school and community. I come to PS/IS 180 with several years of experience as an Assistant Principal of curriculum and instruction at a special education high school. Prior to my service as an administrator, I served as an instructional coach and an elementary classroom teacher. I teach and I lead because I am committed to every student gaining the skills necessary to graduate and succeed in college. My core values are deeply rooted in promoting a culture of CARE: Collaboration, Arts & inquiry-based learning, Reflection, as well as Empowerment.

From my conversations with staff, parents, and community partners, it is clear that PS/IS 180 is a remarkable institution with caring adults who work tirelessly to support the academic and social/ emotional needs of all students.

  • Identified as the greatest strength of this school is the reputation of excellence throughout the larger community. Second, the strong family and community partnerships are the heart of the school pumping vital life into the classroom and after-school programming. You all have asked that I protect and promote these essential qualities of our school. I pledge to you that I will.
  • Identified as an opportunity for growth for us this year is increasing the student achievement level for all students on the NYS mathematics exam.

These strengths and challenges are priorities for us and exist as goals for our school in the Comprehensive Education Plan (CEP) which maintains our primary focus on student achievement. I will update you on these topics and our pathway to success at Curriculum Night on Tuesday, September 26th. Live jazz entertainment will be provided and light refreshments will be served.

PS/IS 180 has a history of great educational leaders. Rest assured that my goal will be to continue building on what others before me have worked so hard to achieve, and to use that strong foundation to move our school to the next level. Together, we will continue to be a beacon of light for public education in Harlem by providing outstanding educational opportunities and academic excellence for all.

If at any time during the year, you have questions or concerns, please call me or stop by.
