Kindergarten Admissions

The kindergarten application is open!  If your child was born in 2019 and lives in New York City, they are eligible to attend kindergarten in Fall 2024. Apply by January 19, 2024. You can still participate in kindergarten admissions by adding them to program waitlists now.

In New York City, children enter kindergarten in the fall of the calendar year they turn five, and are guaranteed a kindergarten seat at a public school. Once your child starts kindergarten, they can remain at the same school until its final elementary grade.

Kindergarten (and Kindergarten Gifted & Talented) Admissions

  • Tuesday, December 5, 2023: Kindergarten Application Opens 

  • Friday, January 19, 2024: Kindergarten Application Closes 

  • Wednesday, March 27, 2024: Kindergarten Offer Release

How to Apply to Kindergarten

Families with children who will enter kindergarten should apply to kindergarten online, over the phone, or in-person at a Family Welcome Center. 

​

You can apply to kindergarten in one of three ways:

  1. Apply Online, in ten languages

  2. Over the phone by calling 718-935-2400

​

Interpretation services are available in over 200 languages for the over-the-phone.
