PS/IS 180 teachers believe that New York City is a great educational resource and provides many opportunities for enriching our curriculum. No child may go on a trip without written permission. A general walking trip permission slip is usually obtained at the beginning of the school year that covers neighborhood trips. Some trips will require specific written permission.
In accordance with Chancellor's Regulation A-670, you will be notified in writing before a field trip. Your child's teacher will notify you of the date, time, place, purpose and means of transportation for all field trips. No verbal consent by phone will be accepted. Children without permission or whose parents do not want them to attend a field trip will be cared for at school. If for some reason you did not receive a form for a trip, please fill in the attached form and communicate with your child's teacher.
Field Trip Form
All students on field trips are expected to follow the instructions of the teacher and other adults in charge. Children who are habitually disruptive may not be allowed to go on a field trip.
Throughout the year the students will be taking both class and whole grade class trips to different cultural institutions in and around the neighborhood. Our teachers rely on parent chaperones to help make each trip run smoothly and safely. We greatly appreciate your time and help! The teachers will do their best to make sure that everyone gets a chance to be a chaperone at least once during the year. To ensure a successful, enjoyable experience for everyone, please review the suggested “rules of the road” below:
Turn off your cell phone. Sending text messages or talking on a cell phone distracts you from the class, the same way it distracts you from driving.
Limit adult socializing. Remember, your main purpose is helping the teacher and caring for the children in your group.
Chaperones must return to school with the children.
In addition, please be mindful of the following:
Younger and older siblings may not accompany you when chaperoning.
Please arrive promptly at the designated meeting location, (usually outside of the school at 9:15 a.m.).
When taking a school bus for transportation, please help the teacher get the students seated and belted in.
