Absence/Lateness

What if my child is absent?

Please call the school if your child will be absent. Please also send a note with your child on the day they return to school, explaining the absence.

If a child is absent for three days or more due to illness, please bring a doctor’s note when the child returns to school.

If your child will be absent for an extended period of time, please contact the school office (212-678-2849) and speak with Ms. Mason, pupil accountant secretary.  Arrangements can be made for homework assignments to be picked up.

Lateness (Grades K-8)

Attendance will be taken in pickup areas (cafeteria, auditorium and gym) by the classrooms teachers at 8am daily. If a student is not on his/her class line at the time of pickup, he/she will be marked late.

Students who arrive between 8:01 and 8:09am may join their class line or go directly to class but will be marked late.

Students arriving at 8:10am and later will be issued a late pass and will be held in the auditorium until 8:30 a.m. when a staff member will escort them to class.  This is to ensure that the first thirty minutes of instruction are not interrupted.

Frequent lateness will be reported to the attendance officer.  Late arrivals often put your child behind for the rest of the morning and are disruptive to the class.  This is also a lifelong habit that needs to be established early in a child’s life.

We encourage you to check your child’s official attendance and lateness records periodically at your NYC Schools Account.  https://mystudent.nyc/

You will need your child’s student ID number and NYC Schools Account password. The number of lateness and absences will be recorded on your child’s progress reports issued in November and late June.

If you need more information about how to find your child’s OSIS ID, please contact Ms. Wilson, parent coordinator, KWilson3@schools.nyc.gov.

Students must arrive before 12 noon to attend school.

Automated computer notifications are made daily for absence and lateness.
